What is a Vehicle Inspection?

A lot of states in this country require residents to pass vehicle inspections, and California is no exception. These inspections have been designed to help increase the state's air quality and decrease pollution caused by vehicle emissions. As a result, California drivers must bring any vehicles manufactured before 1976 in for mandatory smog inspections. If you happen to own a diesel-powered vehicle built before 1996 (and weighing more than 8,500 pounds), you're also subject to these tests. If you drive a car that's six years old or newer, you're exempt. All others must get these inspections completed every other registration-renewal period.

Now, if you plan to sell or trade in your current vehicle, you'll need to provide proof of a current smog certification to the new owner. All of these rules can be a bit confusing, so we urge you to ask a Kia dealer if you have any further questions.
